Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus in Jericho
The healing of Bartimaeus is mentioned in three of the four Gospels, although only one mentions him by name. Bartimaeus heard a crowd of people approaching Jericho and asked what was happening. When the people told Him that Jesus was very near, Bartimaeus called out for Jesus to have mercy on him.
Bartimaeus kept calling out to the Lord for mercy, all to the consternation of the crowd. They wanted him to be quiet. But Jesus commanded Bartimaeus to be brought to Him, and then He healed Bartimaeus and told him that his faith had made him well. Bartimaeus immediately followed Jesus. The crowd praised God because of how Jesus healed Bartimaeus.
Matthew 20:29-34
Then it happened, as He was coming near Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the road begging. 36 And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. 37 So they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. 38 And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
39 Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
40 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him, 41 saying, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
He said, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.”
42 Then Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” 43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
Mark 10:46-54
Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
48 Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called.
Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.”
50 And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.
51 So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.”
52 Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.
