Jesus Heals Peter's Mother-in-law

This miracle of Jesus healing Peter’s mother-in-law is mentioned in three of the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, and Luke. The event is very simple in explanation but moving for the reader.

Jesus comes to Simon Peter’s house.  Peter tells Jesus that his wife’s mother is sick with a fever. Jesus takes the woman by the hand. The fever left her.  She got up and began serving the guests. A seemingly simple story recorded in three gospels, yet it is one of Jesus’ first healings.

This account is a great reminder of Jesus’ power over sickness and disease and of his compassion for his friends and their loved ones.  It reminds us that Jesus is the Great Physician.

Three Accounts of Jesus' Healing in Scripture

Matthew 8:14-15

Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. 15 So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them.

Mark 1:29-31

Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. 31 So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.

Luke 4:38-39

Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. 31 So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.
