I Am the Resurrection and the Life October 8

I Am the Resurrection and the Life.

“I am the Resurrection and the Life” is the fifth  “I Am” statement of Christ in John 11.   Jesus made this claim about Himself while He was in Bethany visiting Martha and Mary.  Lazarus had just died and was buried.  Jesus knew that his good friend Lazarus was sick, but He stayed where He was for a few more days before going to Bethany.  While in Bethany He visits Mary and Martha while they are grieving over Lazarus.  He explains the He is the “Resurrection and the Life.”  His ultimate meaning is that He has power over Life and that His power is not merely for a future resurrection but for now.  The Resurrection is not merely some future event but Christ says, “whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” Christ has all-power over life and resurrection.  Without Christ there is no resurrection, and there is no Life.

John 11:21-27

I Am the Resurrection and the Life

21 Now Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”

23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

24 Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

27 She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”
