I Am the Door October 1

I Am the Door

I Am the Door.

We are continuing with the “I Am” statements of Christ in the Gospel of John. This passage from John 10 is right in the middle of a major section that teaches about Jesus being the True Shepherd and the Good Shepherd.  He specifically says that He is the Door of the sheep. So, it is connected very closely with the entire chapter.

Christ states that others who came before Him were merely thieves and robbers and that the sheep didn’t hear them.  Christ is the only One that the sheep will hear. He is the One Door and the only Door to eternal life. He claims exclusive access to salvation.

The passage speaks of the sheep going in and out to find pasture, but at night the sheepfold is their refuge from the wolves and lions and other dangers. The Door is their safely and protection. The sheep are closed inside, and the thieves, robbers, and other destructive forces are outside.

John 10:7-10

Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
