The Voice of One Crying in the Wilderness
Today’s study continues on the Old Testament prophecies that speak the coming Messiah, Christ. Two things about Him: He would have a messenger who would prepare the way for Him. We know the messenger as John the Baptist (or baptizer.) He was described as “the voice of one crying in the wilderness.”
And second, that as a child, the Messiah would come out of Egypt at one point. Both of these are mentioned throughout the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New Testament in more than one of the Gospels.

A messenger would prepare the way for the Messiah.
Isaiah 40:3-5
The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
“Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make straight in the desert
A highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted
And every mountain and hill brought low;
The crooked places shall be made straight
And the rough places smooth;
5 The glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
And all flesh shall see it together;
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
John the Baptist prepares the way for the Messiah.
Matthew 3:3
For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying:
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight.’ ”
The Messiah would spend time in Egypt.
Hosea 11:1
“When Israel was a child, I loved him,
And out of Egypt, I called My son.
Matthew 2:13-15
“Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”
14 When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, 15 and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
